History of engagement

Historically, involvement in relationships has been greatly different across the centuries. Traditionally, in the olden days, engagements are normally arranged by families for reasons other than love and affection. However, love-based engagements have since been popularized among Western cultures over the 18th and 19th centuries. The tradition of an engagement ring dates back to the 15th century, and the well-known example of Archduke Maximilian of Austria giving a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy is Engagements have, over time, become so much a promise of commitment and love that new customs like proposing with a ring only gained popularity during the 20th century.
